Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care At St. Andrew Lutheran Church
St. Andrew Lutheran Church seeks to reflect the Spirit of Christ in offering numerous support groups, growth groups, and seminars intended to help people live healthy lives.

Our basic plan of pastoral care is divided into three parts. First, we have pastors and a lay professional counselor who are available to anyone in a crisis situation, needs pastoral care during a hospitalization, or needs information concerning resources available in the community. Second, we have ongoing support groups centered on specific issues which have been identified by our congregation as priority needs. Third, we intend to offer mini-retreats throughout the year as a way to help people maintain a healthy life. These retreats are centered on topics which have been suggested by our congregation members. All pastoral care ministries are open to anyone.

Counseling Ministries
Jesus said, "I came that they may have life and have it abundantly."   John 10:10

Part of the mission of St. Andrew Lutheran Church is to encourage and share the abundant life Christ gives through a counseling ministry of:

Healing: anxiety, depression, guilt, anger, pain, abuse
Supporting: through difficult times and circumstances
Guiding: through decisions and choices, looking at options, alternatives and possibilities
Reconciling: of the self to God, oneself, and others

St. Andrew Church provides counseling services by pastoral staff and a counseling minister free of charge. St. Andrew sees this service as a part of its mission.

Pastor Rod, Pastor Sarah, Pastor Roger and Intern Pastor Bob are all available to assist you. You may call the church office at 952-937-2776 for assistance.

We also encourage you to inform the church at any time you will be hospitalized so care may be provided.

Befrienders
Befrienders is a system for training and organizing laypersons for caring ministry in and around the congregation. Befrienders provides congregations with the structure, training, and resources to set up and administer a complete system for one-on-one lay caring ministry in the congregation.

Befrienders offer one-to-one Christian care and support to the bereaved, hospitalized, terminally ill, separated, divorced, unemployed, relocated, and others facing a crisis or life challenge. Befrienders help our pastors and congregations provide quality caring ministry for as long as people need it.

Befrienders receive 20 hours of training (one night per week for 10 weeks) on such topics as how to be good listeners, the importance of confidentiality, how to identify feelings, and specific information on a variety of topics as how to minister to those who are grieving, going through a divorce, epression, to name a few. Following training, Befrienders are then matched with a person who has requested a caregiver for support.

If you would like to learn more about this meaningful ministry opportunity, please contact the church at 952-937-2776.

Love Reaching In
As a congregation grows, mutual ministry does not happen without some sort of organized structure to help the members show their care for each other as brothers and sisters in Christ. Love Reaching In is one way of demonstrating that not only do the pastors care, but others care, too.

Love Reaching In is part of our pastoral care for individuals who have been hospitalized. When the hospitalization results in an extended recovery time at home, we ask volunteers to bring a meal for the one recovering and the family. This meal takes the burden off of the family and becomes a visible sign to the family of the care, support and prayers offered for them by the church.

If you would like to be a part of the Love Reaching In team, or would like further information on this ministry opportunity, please call the church at 952-937-2776
